You can tell that the guy who played Basil was almost to break character when the guy playing Manuel said "I wait on tables!"
John Cleese was trying to sue the company that produces this show. The Australian comedy community piled on and attacked the actors involved who were just doing a job. The trouble is, the BBC owns Fawlty Towers and unofficially supports and promotes this show. The show still operates to this day and John Cleese's stage version lasted six months and was cancelled shows due to lack of sales.
I don’t blame John for wanting to sue Because if you think about it , there using John’s characters that he made for his show most likely without permission I think if they asked permission and talked to John about it he probably would’ve been okay with it
@@jakehughes735 Where am I blaming John Cleese? I was criticising the Australian Comedy scene attacking actors trying to pay their bills instead of criticising the company and its directors/owners.
Life imitates farce, a work of art.
Thanks so much I wanted this to exist and it does! Made.my.day.
The guy playing basil does the voice very well
I agree - I had the opportunity to talk a bit with Michael (the actor playing Basil) afterwards, and he was very pleasant, kind and really into the stuff (see one of my other comments in the thread)...! 😉
I am going to one of these soon cant wait lol
James Heal - have fun and enjoy... It's a very funny and nice tribute! 😉
It's not the same when people are laughing as to people are annoyed in the series
You might think it's mean of John Cleese to consider pressing legal charges, but he has a point for that. Not because of the imitation of just one character, but the adoption of three of the main characters of Fawlty Towers is a stolen concept. If the people who do this marvellous act pay John for what is rightfully his then I would call it fair enough.
Mr. Cleese has absolutely every right to protect his work...! Whether this performing troupe has obtained the rights to do their show based on the original or not, I don't know... I would like to think that they have gotten the proper permissions before travelling all the way from Australia to Denmark to perform it... But I don't know! ;o)
@@grouchoDK Surely they have asked permission, would be a massive mistake regarding I PRs, they could end up paying 90% plus to JC of the profits?
@@gaskellr44 - there actually has been allegations and threats from JC lawyers, but the troupe has (apparently) tried to get in talks with JC and/or his lawyers/agents for years, trying to settle an eventual dispute... I think there's other videos regarding this on UA-cam (I saw something a couple of years ago, so I might not remember everything a 100% correctly)... They believe, they are honouring the original work. I have no opinion about who's right, but it was a fun evening...! 😉
@@grouchoDK Yes I suppose if you are all into itas guests collectively and can also forget about how good the tv series is then I can see how it would be a good night out, def worth the experience. Yes litigation can sometimes take a long time to get sorted so an understandable delay is possible.
Basil was great! Sybil, so so Manuel... crap
On those trays
Ha ha, right...! 😉
how original, been there myself food is disgusting half of what I ordered came out cold and a terrible performance what a load of shitty would recommend it you would be better off at home with a take away watching the real faulty towers on the tv
Bloody rip off. Then they have the cheek to try and copyright their productions to prevent anyone else from ripping them off...haha!
Hope John Cleese does go through with suing their arses off
Its a great show...john loves it...feels honoured...so shut the heck up and enjoy....idiot.😁moron.shite for brains.
@@pegasusgalaxy68 So john knows about it? Bet hes happy as he will be getting a good slice of the cake. Looks like it could be a fun evening but don't think ide be interested cos when uve watched the brilliance of the tv series this would pale into insignificance.
@@gaskellr44 It's a desperately pale imitation by the looks of it.
@@simonparker57 Yes, but some people are easily pleased as the saying goes....I'd rather eat my own sh.. than go there.
Oh dear tut tut tut ! It would seem these people have been taking (putting it politely) some bloody liberties with the characters played by John Cleese & Connie Booth. Now it transpires that Mr Cleese is considering suing this Aussie theatre company for (in his own words & not mine) "shamelessly ripping off" Fawlty Towers. It's watch this space I guess.
But impressionists plaguerise the same and get away with it.....
That's covered by fair use conditions in copyright law. Different kettle of fish, look it up and you'll see what I mean.
I'd like to think that if ISIS could just attend one of these evenings, the tragic events that have just taken place in Belgium would never happen again. THIS is the sort of thing we should be celebrating as the great success of our way of life. You wouldn't get THIS in Syria. Who in Daesh could pull off a Basil like this? No one, I suspect.
I think you're absolutely right... 😉
"Wait on table", I see what you did there
Damn they are good playing the roles :)
wish I could see this live
Hey, this is very good! And the audience is really into this comedy! Very well done! =D
det var super fedt, har du mere video fra igår??
Hej Jeon! Ja, det var en fest... Har kun et 52 sekunders klip fra Where The Lights Won't Shine... ;o)
Så er den anden bid også lagt på UA-cam...! ;o)
Lars Sommer cool cool, jeg tror der er andre der har nogle klip, for der var mange telefoner i luften, men om det kommer op må tiden vise. Fedt var det i hvert fald!
Looks like so much fun.
It was... Highly reccomended...! ;o) The superb actor playing Basil also incorporated a bit of improv, when a lady from the audience couldn't find her handbag - and when it was finally located, Basil went to the far far back and placed it there! When I after the show talked with the actor, I applauded him for incorporating a bit of real-life trivia to the show - when John Cleese and the rest of the Monty Python troupe stayed at a hotel while filming The Holy Grail. The owner Mr. Sinclair was the inspiration for John Cleese to later write Fawlty Towers. Eric Idle har forgotten his briefcase at the hotel, at when he later wanted to retrieve it, he couldnøt find it at the reception, where he had left it... He asked Mr. Sinclair, if he had seen it - and he hesitantly explained, that he had put it at the back end of the garden behind a small wall...!! When Eric Idle asked why on earth he had placed it there, Mr. Sinclair expolained that he had heard a ticking noise and was afraid it was a bomb...! A bomb? Eric Idle asked - why should it be a bomb...? To which Mr. Sinclair replied, we've had som problems with the staff...!! ;o) Hilarious - and respect for the actor to incorporate this into the show - loved it! ;o)
No - it's great actors from Australia who performs in real restaurants around the world... ;-)
Ah, Australians, that's why I thought there was just a little something off with the accents of Basil and Sybil, just a minor complaint, they performed beautifully!
they got a real life hotel restaurant? looks better than the one on the tv or was that just acting, and a borrowed restaurant for Basil's live public act?
Very understandable - but still quite nice for us "Gringos"... ;o)
Vavadero, also known as Gringo land. Real Cubans don't go there except to work.
I LOVE how Sybil shouts 'Basil'! And the way the lady at 0:44 looks when Sybil does that :)
cool
Now this is dinner theater!
Nice channel
I was to this concert. It was so cool, but I did not geet so good filming.

@NOBODYSANGEL9 i dont know about britney i went to her concert at the same place and people where leaving before the end of the show cause really she sucked so bad and the whole thing was just playback it was just like hearing a cd the sound was just bad... pink on the other hand i have never in my life seen anyone be so "on" when shes on that stage she just lighten up the whole arena and get everyone to sing along... it was loud and HOT great music and the sound was really good that night
Sorry -but NO... I just recorded a few "snippets" and not the entire show! ;o)
